EPISODE 40 of ‘All About Art’: Artist Interview with Laurel Johannesson (in collaboration with ARTPOWHER Contemporary) In this episode, I speak to Laurel Johannesson, a Canada-born artist who examines various psychological states of being, using the beach or shoreline as a liminal space in her photographs and moving image. Laurel studied at the University of Calgary, the University of Saskatchewan, and the Royal College of Art in London. Her print, photographic, interactive, and moving image artworks have been exhibited extensively in Italy, Greece, England, France, India, Iceland, Portugal, Argentina, Germany, Japan, Chile, Taiwan, the United States, and Canada. Listen in to hear me ask her about her practice, and how she works in a variety of mediums. We talk about her inspiration and the themes present within her practice, along with a more recent series she started in 2020. We also touch on her role as a professor and how other professional experiences have shaped her career as an artist.
