310: Are Credit Cards Bad for Your Boutique?

I posted this on Sunday on my Instagram & Facebook page: "Credit cards don’t make you wealthy. In fact, I see them bring boutique owners more shame than anything else. The shame ends up fostering negative feelings about debt, sales and a general LOW VIBE about making money. There’s an epidemic in Boutiqueland of the “Use credit card to purchase inventory, pay off credit card with that month’s sales, buy more inventory on credit card, pay it off with sales...” cycle. This quickly turns into a cycle of SCARCITY always chasing your tail to pay the card off with your sales, and that means STRESSFUL months. My advice for boutique owners who come to me with this cycle is to QUIT THE CARDS! Slowly wean yourself off using the credit cards, using cash to pay for as much inventory as you can. Or, only spend on the card what you have in cash so you immediately (like a minute after spending) pay the balance (if you are worried about card safety). CHALLENGE: What would happen if you hid your credit card and only ran your business on cash? (REAL LIFE STORY: I ran my boutique business entirely on cash. My fear of credit cards— not the best money mindset but oh well— had me terrified to ever use one for the business.)" Here's more thoughts and what came up for people... I'm going a little deeper here!
