The Calgary Underground Film Festival is kicking off today online, you can find out more right here; https://www.calgaryundergroundfilm.org/ There's a fantastic selection of films running online until May 2nd online but we jumped into the one that really caught our eye. 'Alien On Stage' is the story of an amateur dramatics group lead by a crew of UK bus drivers spend a year creating a stage adaptation of Ridley Scott’s 'Alien'. The show is a crushing flop, but fate gives them a second chance to find their audience. Whilst still adjusting to the idea that their serious show is actually a comedy, the group is suddenly whisked from their village hall to a London West End theatre to perform this accidental masterpiece for one night only. With wobbly sets, awkward acting and special effects requiring 'more luck than judgment', this is the touching and hilarious underdog tale about a unique bus driving crew who become space heroes. We talked with co-director Danielle Kummer about following this motley crew of performers and paying real reverance to what these people are doing and the spirit of creativity and celebration of a piece of work that trancends genres, mediums and generations...
