Why are teachers/mentors ESSENTIAL for a man to live well? Why must a great leader first know how to be a wise follower? And is the secret to a great relationship … separate bedrooms? In this episode, my guest, Satyen Raja, and I mine these questions and more for useful insights that can make a difference in your life. Satyen co-founded, along with his wife Suzanne, the transformational training academy Warrior Sage … what a cool name. Satyen’s work is a living synthesis of eastern wisdom and western practicality, combining the power of the warrior and the wisdom of the sage to lead leaders worldwide into their highest self-knowledge, self-expression and impact. I actually met Satyen in 2018 at the taping of a talk show on which we were both featured guests, The Dr. Nandi Show, for an episode on Healthy Masculinity. My lady, Silvy, and I, were immediately taken with Satyen’s presence, from the moment we met him in the hotel lobby where we were waiting for someone from the show to pick us up for the taping. Satyen exudes warmth and charisma and caring with a generous spirit that’s infectious. You just feel good in his presence. I later learned that Satyen is also a long-time student of the author-teacher who changed my life, David Deida. In fact, one thing I love about this interview, is Satyen really demonstrates the value of learning from mentors and teachers in what you’re wanting to succeed at, whether it’s a martial art or business or intimate relationship with another. Satyen shares a particularly striking story in this episode about a profound, transcendent experience he had as a young man, that would have never happened for him, if not for a wise mentor who instructed him to get up at 4am every morning for a time. This interview was a bit shorter than usual, given Satyen’s tight schedule this day, but we dive into really interesting topics, including surprisingly – didn’t see this coming – but THE BEST, THE MOST WISE insight to the question of whether we should build that damn border wall with Mexico that I’ve ever heard anyone ever say … I think you’re gonna really love his answer, no matter your politics on the issue … and even if you’re listening to this 100 years after this interview. Truly, his answer is timeless wisdom. We also talk about a surprising practice to maintain a vibrant sexual polarity in a long-term relationship. Satyen’s been with his wife over 30 years, and they’ve been through it all … And definitely stay tuned for Satyen’s 5 Key Takeaway’s at the end of this episode of Men, This Way … Alright … Let’s dive … SHOW NOTES 10:09 ~ Satyen’s approach to relaxing and chilling out 12:52 ~ Satyen’s approach to discipline and laziness 14:37 ~ An early transcendent experience 17:38 ~ When to lead, and when to follow 21:58 ~ The power of listening in masculine leadership 24:14 ~ Separate bedrooms in a relationship 28:12 ~ The most important thing that men need to know to create a really thriving relationship 30:30 ~ The biggest challenge facing men in the world today 40:01 ~ “5 KEY TAKEWAYS” FINALE 40:29 ~ KEY INSIGHT: What must I do today to live, love, and die completely without regret? 42:12 ~ KEY MAN TO LEARN FROM: David Deida & Stuart Wilde, particularly his book “Infinite Self: 33 Steps to Reclaiming Your Inner Power” 42:59 ~ KEY RESOURCE (most impactful, inspiring book, movie, podcast): “Reality Transurfing” by Vadim Zeland (Book) 44:24 ~ KEY INVESTMENT (the best thing you spent money on, under $10,000): Vacation to Hawaii 45:00 ~ KEY PRACTICE (7-day challenge to the men listening): The question: “What must I do today to live, love, and die completely without regret?” OTHER LINKS AND RESOURCES Find Satyen @ www.WarriorSage.com
