He was born Jeffrey Preston Jorgensen in 1964 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Jackie Gise and Ted Jorgensen, a unicycle hockey player, and circus performer. He graduated from Princeton University in 1986 with a degree in electrical engineering and computer science.
