Welcome to the Ohio Suicide Reporting Guidelines series. In this episode we introduce the concept of "Limiting suicide contagion" and provide tips and techniques for reporting on suicide death safely. Studies show that certain aspects of suicide reporting can increase rates of suicidal behavior, especially among youth and other vulnerable individuals. This is called “suicide contagion.” Suicide contagion effects are real accounting for up to 5% of all suicides. The checklist, brief and extended guidelines can be found on the OhioMHAS website.
