Yearly there are 11.2 billion tons of solid waste collected around the world. Each person in the U.S. produces about 4.5 pounds of municipal solid waste per person per day. It is pretty apparent we have a waste problem. Much of this is due to an underlying consumption problem. We have lost the desire and knowledge to repair things. Things are so cheap that we often dismiss repairing the items we currently own and opt to replace them with new things. However, the mendable items we choose to throw away end up in landfills, for the most part. So what can we do? Repair items rather than purchasing new.
