Episode #73 of The Coaches Network Podcast.The guest for this episode is Lee Waddington.Lee is the founder, and co-owner of 1st Team Football Group which utilises a unique development methodology, blending the cultural and football characteristics of each country in which it operates, with a professional development system underpinned by the science of childhood learning.Lee is a UEFA ‘A’ licensed, FA Advanced Youth Award qualified coach with a Masters’ Degree in Sports Psychology, and has worked for several Premier League clubs including; Manchester United, Nottingham Forest, Blackburn Rovers, Manchester City and Burnley where he has been constantly involved in the UK professional academy system for nearly 30 years.Lee has a verifiable track record of exceptional player development, including assisting the following players to become current professional footballers: Joshua Harrop (Manchester United/Preston North End), Nathan Holland (Everton/West Ham United), and Dwight McNeil (Burnley) to name a few.In his time working for Premier League clubs, Lee has undertaken a number of key roles from being the head of coaching, and foundation phase lead to head of recruitment. The skills and experience acquired in these varying roles allowed Lee to progress to the positions of national and international academy director with the UK’s largest academy, where he successfully implemented strategies to grow the business from 1 to 50 academies nationwide and then onto the international stage with an exclusive partnership with the University of Central Lancashire.During his career Lee has worked in a variety of countries such as the USA, Australia, China, Canada and across Europe delivering coaching sessions, coach education programmes and classroom-based learning to children, young people and adults. From working overseas Lee has a greater understanding of not just the football landscapes in those countries but also, and more importantly, the cultural differences.Lee joins CoachYas to discuss a range of experiences, insights gained and lessons learned through his scenic journey.
