In this episode, I sit down with Cora Hilts of Reve en Vert to discuss sustainable shopping, conscious living and the importance of taking responsibility for our own well being in the modern world. Cora has a masters in environmental politics and sustainability, and is the founder of Reve en Vert - an online store sourcing and showcasing only the most authentic, ethical and environmentally-friendly brands and businesses. She lists only brands that tick all the boxes when it comes to the four main types of sustainability: human, social, economic and environmental, and is so passionate about creating a world with less injustice; starting in the fashion industry. Fashion is one of the biggest polluting industries, creating so much waste; built mainly on using harmful and unsustainably-produced fabrics and materials; and made only possible by the people in production, often working in dangerous, unethical conditions and with unfair pay, amongst other major issues. Cora and I discuss which major red flags to look out for in brands theses days, which green lights to look at for, and how to know if a brand is trustworthy and reliable. We talk about the importance of transparency in the industry. We talk about the how to choose your fabrics, and how synthetics are not only harmful for the environment but also for our personal health and wellbeing. We talk about the plastic problem and how, despite our best efforts, we are consuming a credit card sized amount of plastic per year in the modern world. She shares with me so many incredible facts and statistics - this episode is such a wake up call, but at the same time a really concise and realistic discussion for anyone new to sustainability and not quite sure where to start or how to do their bit.
